Combo Records was founded by Jake Vernon Haven Porter aka Jake "King" Porter in 1951 at 1107 El Centro Street Hollywood, California.
Run out of the founder's basement, his label was a small-budget,
independent operation that specialized in newly discovered artists or
performers on the descending trajectory of their commercial appeal. Ace Records purchased the label catalog after Porter's death in 1993 and has reissued many of the Combo recordings.
The Label stayed in business for 10 years 1951-1961 and produced mostly Rhythm & Blues, Doo Wop, and Jazz.
