Top Rank Records
Set up by the J. Arthur Rank Organization with the first release in January 1959. Managed by Dick Rowe assisted by Tony Hatch, the label also released material from smaller American companies. This contained an eclectic mix from Doo-Wop (Crests, Flamingos etc) to Rock (Freddy Cannon). British hit-makers were Craig Douglas, Bert Weedon, John Leyton etc. The label closed as an independent company in August 1960, but the name continued with EMI releasing material under license until April 1962.
